I was born in Malkaya Village, Diyarbakır-Turkey on November 8, 1966. I received my Bachelor of Science (Engineering Physics) degree from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey in 1990. I went to the United States for graduate study with a scholarship from Turkish Government. In the States, I joined the Department of Physics and Applied Physics, University of Massachusetts Lowell in the spring of 1994 and graduated in 1995 with a master of science (Applied Physics) degree. For Ph.D. study, I joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California San Diego. I got my Ph.D. degree from UCSD in Optoelectronics in 2001. In my PhD thesis I experimentally characterized the DX centers in InAlAs compound semiconductors. DX centers are point defects observed in III-V compound semiconductors.
I returned back to Turkey in 2001 and joined the Engineering Physics Department, Ankara University, Ankara-Turkey. Currently, I am an assistant professor in the same department.
